Information for Prospective Students and Scholars

Undergraduates

There may be opportunities to work with me and/or members of the lab group through campus and college-wide programs, such as URAP and SPUR.

Currently available undergraduate research positions for Fall 2023:

Graduates

Please note: I am not accepting new doctoral students in AY 2024-2025

If you think your proposed research aligns with the lab’s work, I strongly encourage you to get in touch with me to discuss your interests before submitting your application to the Graduate Division. I generally look for students with a strong background in social sciences and humanities, relevant professional work, keen interest in ethnographic research, diverse life experiences and trajectories, and language training (if applicable).

Although I can recruit PhD students in both ERG and ESPM (Division of Society and Environment), students can only apply to one program per admission cycle. I encourage prospective students to read the program descriptions carefully and reach out to current students as well as Graduate Student Academic Officers in each department to learn more about funding, student experiences, and other departmental, campus, and UC-wide communities and resources.

*Early-career graduate students: There are several funding opportunities for those who are just starting graduate school, such as the National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowships Program (US citizens and permanent residents), the American Association of University Women (AAUW) International Fellowship (international students), and the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship (citizens of African countries; masters program applicants).

Postdocs

If you think your research aligns with the lab’s work, please send me an email. There are several ways to join the lab as a postdoctoral scholar, including but not limited to the UC President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship, UC Berkeley’s S.V. Ciriacy-Wantrup Postdoctoral Fellowship, the Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship, and the NSF Postdoctoral Fellowship in Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences.
